Why Give?

Talking about money can feel uncomfortable—especially in a culture where finances are often private, and sometimes a source of stress or pressure.

But in the Bible, giving isn’t mainly about obligation. It’s about formation.

What we do with our money shapes our hearts, our priorities, and ultimately, our lives.

At Newsong, we talk about giving in three simple ways:

We Get to Give

Giving is first an invitation, not a requirement.

The Bible consistently frames generosity as a response to grace—not a way to earn it.

In 2 Corinthians 8:9, we’re reminded that Jesus, though rich, became poor for our sake, so that we might become rich in Him. Christian giving flows out of that reality.

We give because:

  • God has been generous to us

  • Everything we have is ultimately His

  • We’ve been invited into His work in the world

This means giving isn’t about pressure—it’s about participation.

It’s one of the ways we step into what God is already doing: building His church, caring for others, and making the gospel known.

We Need to Give

At the same time, giving is not just something we get to do—it’s something we need to do but maybe not in the way you think.

Jesus spoke often about money, not because He wanted something from us, but because He knows so much about us. He knew how deeply money shapes us.

In Matthew 6:21, He says, ā€œWhere your treasure is, there your heart will be also.ā€

Our hearts tend to follow our money.

In a place like Bucks County—where life can revolve around success, stability, and providing for our families—it’s easy for good things to quietly become ultimate things.

Giving helps loosen that grip.

It actively pushes back against:

  • Materialism – the belief that more will finally be enough

  • Greed – the pull to accumulate and hold tightly

  • Self-sufficiency – the illusion that we are in control

When we give, we’re practicing trust.

We’re reminding ourselves that:

  • God is our provider

  • Our security isn’t found in what we have

  • Our lives are about more than ourselves

Generosity reorders our loves which is something we need. Generosity trains us to live open-handedly in a closed-fist world.

We Love to Give

Over time, something begins to change.

What may start as a step of faith becomes something deeper—a genuine desire.

In 2 Corinthians 9:7, we’re told that God loves a cheerful giver. That kind of joy doesn’t come from guilt or pressure—it comes from a transformed heart.

As the gospel takes root in us, generosity becomes less of a duty and more of a delight.

We begin to love giving because:

  • We see its impact in people’s lives

  • We experience freedom from always needing more

  • We reflect the heart of a generous God

Giving becomes a way of life—not just something we do occasionally, but part of how we follow Jesus in everyday decisions.

A Simple Invitation

If you’re new to church or still exploring faith, there’s no expectation for you to give.

But if Newsong is your church home, giving is one of the ways we grow together—supporting the ministry of the church and learning to trust God more deeply.

Wherever you are, the invitation is the same: To take a next step toward a life shaped not by fear or accumulation—but by grace and generosity.
